Aito || Adventure List Item # -- || ------ Ba- dum, Ba- dum, Ba-dumHis heart raced. Anxiety, fear, excitement all coalesced into one. He stood at the threshold of the academy, a new world, a new chapter in his life. He kept his eyes closed as he tried to take in the world around him, the noon sun hit his skin, he could feel the prickle of heat, the morning air crisp with dew, on the back of his mind his father words still lingered, ' Have fun, you already make proud.' The old military man had a way of being gruff and direct at times, yet Aito knew his father wanted him to be himself, though the young teen had a habit of wanting to be more like his father. Ba- dum, Ba- dum, Ba- dumA few years back his heart racing this way would have been of concern, he laid his hand on his chest, feeling the drum of his heart, upon close inspection the back of his hand was marked with scars from surgeries and needles. ' Thats the call to adventure' his sister once told him, ' We don't do, hard things, scary things, because there easy, we do them, because we can.' he could still see the tired frame underneath the medical scrubs his sister wore, even after her long days, and longer nights, she would make time for her brother. Ba- dum, Ba- dum, Ba- dum' What do you mean you're going to school?' his mother's firm voice caused his anxiety to spike, his father warned him that she would be his one opposition, " I" he mouth... " I will..." even though it was a memory it felt like he was living the moment again, " fallow my dream!" firm on his objective he opened his eyes, deep blues capturing the world around him. " Out of the way" A senior and his cronies pushed Aito aside, the lighter boy stumbling to the floor, blinking Aito saw the person standing before him, he had an air of authority and his cronies looked like they would ask how high if ever told Jump. Everything about the young man before him uniform regalia marked him as a third year, " Another nobody" he sneered as he looked at Aito's, " And what's with that gaudy jacket?" he commented on the boys old trench coat. " Uhm" Aito tried to speak, " Tsk, tsk, tsk, no one asked you to talk, learn you place and stay of my way" turning around he continued to walk his cronies mouthing threats as they fallowed the leader. His clawed weapons hanging from his waist.

Aito had gotten lucky. The older student and his cronies departed leaving the smaller boy alone. With a wince Aito stood up. The palms of his hands marked from bracing his fall, but flesh was intact. He sigh as he massaged his shoulders. His blue eyes watching the older student leave. Looking down he wondered what was wrong with his trench coat, sure it fit him oddly, it was ever slightly too long and to broad for his gangly frame, but that was a common sight in almost all his clothing, they all seem to fit off, making often seem like he was swimming in it, in particular shirts and jackets which had to compensate for his wings, where ever he was hiding them as he was now or keeping them exposed.
Pulling out a notebook out of his jacket pocket he scribbled quickly, Today I arrived at the school, the students don't seem the friendliest. They didn't like my jacket. He grinned as he put away the notebook, he was not going to allow this to ruin his day, he knew he needed to go to the school office to get his new ID and a few more documentations, quietly he felt the breeze as he walked to the admin building, he was hoping that he would be able to get the errands done quickly, he was starting to feel hungry. "Dam metabolism" he muttered to himself, he was so used to his strict and regimented diets that he was having trouble adapting to having more control over it.

It was a sunny warm day, the feelings of possibility and optimism were endless. It was the kind of day that charged you up, even if you had been up to late training. And Haru was on the last, with seemingly boundless energy and optimism he bounded towards the entrance of the school. He had met someone who saw potential in him, and she was really beautiful too. It made his heart flutter in ways he didn't really understand but he did what he did best. He didn't think about it. He always lived his life simply and to it's fullest, some might call him an airhead but that was a gross short selling of his dedication and seriously sensitive nature. He simply went with the wind, whatever direction he blew in was clearly the direction he was meant to go in. He nearly bounded into the student in the jacket standing stock still, in a show of grace and practiced control he pirouetted around, spinning to the right as his wild brown ponytail caught in the wind as his hazel eyes locked with the new student's. the were soft, but there was also the matter of the visible oversized canine that glinted in the sunlight as he spun around Aito, his school jacket flying back to reveal a pair of full length katanas. "Whoa ho, Hey there!" he exclaimed brightly, a world of difference from the other students as he deftly landed the spin; shoes skidding a bit on the ground, and grinning brightly as if the show of acrobatics was nothing at all. He had a third year pin on him, but seemed more than friendly to underclassmen. "First year huh? First day?" his voice chirped like an excited and curious cat. Paying atention one might notice a certain feline quality to his movements. "You should be careful it's dangerous to stand still in the entrance, why don't you come this way!" he said as he grabbed onto aito's sleeve and pulled him towards the side of the entrance, displaying a deceptive amount of strength for his build. "Name's Sato, Haruto, a third year! What's yours Kohai?" he asked as his bright expression and eyes bounced around taking the new kid in. "Do you need someone to show you around the place?"In stark and utter contrast this upperclassman was a veritable ray of concentrated sunshine.

Aito moved slowly and deliberate, underneath the old military trench coat he wore was a wiry frame he was still learning to control, it had not been that long since he was bed ridden, but he refused to let it define him, though his new found hunger was a challenge he was still working to get used to. Hopefully it was a temporary thing or as his parents had joked, he would eat them out of a house.
He felt something akin to a gust of wind out of nowhere, he barely had any time to react or brace as what it seem from nowhere another student pirouetted around him with grace and speed, he blinked his blue eyes trying to regain focus, as this sword wearing mad-lad just barely avoided him at this rate he might have to put a sign on his back saying slow moving human, please avoid, he chucked to himself, he did ask his father if he could get a shirt that said 'I died and all I got was lousy feathers', his father military humor approved but the woman in his family where completely against it.
"Whoa ho, Hey there!"
"Hey" he responded once he caught enough of his breath, "Sorry, I'm a bit slow" he apologized, he could feel that this student carried himself much differently from the once that had bullied him earlier, but he was not naive enough not to realize he was being in the way.
"First year huh? First day?"
"Just fell of the turnip truck" he put on a tentative smile, he hope most people where as friendly as this dude, but his first group of people didn't seem the case and the few that saw them do what they did kept their distance. "Actually heading to get my paperwork for my classes and stuff" he shrugged since he was not exactly sure he knew what the expectations where for him, beyond learning his powers.
"You should be careful it's dangerous to stand still in the entrance, why don't you come this way!"
The moment Haru grabbed him by the sleeve, he would have instantly noticed that the boy was much lighter than his fame seem to imply, "Oi..." he tried to regain his balance, "Yeah, I'm rapidly realizing its a death trap." He let out a bit of a sight, "I was trying to absorb the scenery, I don't get out much..." a fact that even with the changes in his life had not fully settled in his mind that he now had much more freedom.
"Name's Sato, Haruto, a third year! What's yours Kohai? Do you need someone to show you around the place?"
"Korolenko, Aito" he braced for the usual questions about his strange last name, "I would love some help, this map is uhm" he looked at the school map, it was not complicated, but it was overwhelming for someone who had never had to navigate by map much less worry about directions most of his life. "Is everyone as friendly as you?" he crossed his mental fingers hoping that maybe his luck had made him bump into the few bad eggs.

"All good it's just a good idea to make way for traffic especially as those who come afterwards might be in a rush. We have the people late for morning clubs stampeding through any second." He said with a small shake of his head as he held his arms out in a 'it is what it is' expression.
Haru laughed as he mentioned the turnip truck, "All good what part of japan are you from?" he asked, "I can guide you to the faculty office if you need to." he said with a grin. "I can show you all around!" he said brightly as he threw an arm around ait's shoulders an pulled him in. As if it was the two of them against the world. "Kororenku... koro... ren... Koro-Kohai!" he said simply giving him a nickname as his japanese tongue failed over the Ls, "Nah not everyone, some people are more like me, some people are jerks, but don;t let them get you down, that's how they win, and they deserve to lose!"
He stepped forward and grabbed aito's wrist as he pulled him along, "Let's get going!" he exclaimed as he pulled aito forward. "There's a lot to see before the first class!"

"All good it's just a good idea to make way for traffic especially as those who come afterwards might be in a rush. We have the people late for morning clubs stampeding through any second."
He nodded in understanding while making a mental note to keep off the main thoroughfare if he did not want to become part of the environment. "Are they strict about time around here?" he asked, his father was always a punctual person and a believer of being on time meant that they where late, therefore arriving early was the norm.
"All good what part of japan are you from?"
"Kind of all over the place" He answered, "Though I spent most of my childhood around the Nagasaki Prefecture in Sasebo", due to his health, he visit the inside of many medical facilities over the years.
"I can guide you to the faculty office if you need to."
"I would appreciate it," he said shyly "Still getting used to finding places" he said with a nervous laugh.
"I can show you all around!"
As Haruto put his arm around him, Aito's face made it clear there was some discomfort on his part, he was not super used physical contact, and the weight of Haruto's arm on him felt like a ton of bricks to the lithe unathlethic boy.
"Kororenku... koro... ren... Koro-Kohai!"
He was tempted to correct him, but opted not to, most people he grew up around struggled with his family name, which lead to him just using his first name in most interaction, or his mothers name if they insisted on having some soft of shurename on documentation.
"Nah not everyone, some people are more like me, some people are jerks, but don;t let them get you down, that's how they win, and they deserve to lose!"
"I don't think they can get me down" he responded with a nervous laugh, after a lifetime of his body just wanting to consume itself he didn't think they could say or do worse than he had done to himself over the years, "Yeah! They don't deserve to win!" he said with a little more confidence Haruto's infective energy energizing the boy.
"Let's get going! There's a lot to see before the first class!"
"Oi~" he exclaimed as he got dragged once more. "Slow down please!" he asked as he tried to control his limbs to keep up, "Haruto!" he emphasized, he really enjoyed the infective energy he had, but Aito moved like a new born deer, limbs failing about, his jacket straining as his wings tried free themselves from their binds in order to compensate the boys balance.

"Oh yeah they tend to be very strict about time, if you can avoid it never be late!" haru cautioned him animatedly as he slowed down a little bit, noting his new companions issues with balancing. "Welcome to Kyoto then!" haru said brightly, "If you need help looking around."
He stepped back noticing Aito's discomfort. "Yup, stand strong and don't give in." he stopped to give Aito a chance to catch his balance, "I'm sorry, are you injured?" he asked, worried that he might have been harming his new friend. "We should move quickly though are you having difficulty walking?"
Haru's face had turned from exuberant energy to honest concern. "We don't want to be late, and if it's your first day we need to get you to the faculty office immediately." he did have to meet his teacher and such before the first class. "You need to talk to your homeroom teacher before hand so you can set up your introduction!"

"Oh yeah they tend to be very strict about time, if you can avoid it never be late!"
Nodding he made a mental note that fallowing his father's mantra of being on time meant being late, "Good to know" he smiled. Having one less thing to guess did help alleviate some of his anxiety. He knew he would have time to learn more, but he was scared of messing things up, having mostly been homeschooled.
"Welcome to Kyoto then! If you need help looking around."
"Looking forward to explore more" he said excitedly, "Haven't had much chance to see the world"
"Yup, stand strong and don't give in."
"Not planning to give up" he had not given up yet even with everything he had gone through, this was the best time in his life. No way he would give up now that things where starting to take an upswing.
"I'm sorry, are you injured?"
"No really" he answered. "Well, kinda" he made a face as he tried to find a way explain things. "Recently healed?" he answered questionly as if he himself was not certain.
"We should move quickly though are you having difficulty walking?"
Bitting his lip he looked down at his own feet, "Getting use to them." he responded seriously, "It has not been long since they started working again" he continued answering no thinking much about what he was saying, "I'm doing okay though."
"We don't want to be late, and if it's your first day we need to get you to the faculty office immediately."
"It is my first day" his face turned red as he became very anxious, as he felt Haru's energy shift, "I can keep up" he said mostly trying to convince himself, he started walking quickly not exactly thinking where he was heading.
"You need to talk to your homeroom teacher before hand so you can set up your introduction!"
"What? I need an introduction?" he started to feel the blood drain from his face, feeling a little out of sort. "What direction?" he asked he stopped, realizing he was not sure where he was heading.

Haru realized how out of his element he was and how he had to get Aito where he needed to go by the fastest means possible. As it stood explaining it would take more time than they had. "Ok the tour can wait. Please, don't move." he said as he approached Aito. He was getting close, almost too close, and then definitely too close before grabbing Aito behind the knees and moving his other hand to support aitos back as he picked him up with absolutely alarming ease. He didn't look that strong at first glance but now that he could feel Haru's arms it was like they were made of steel. He flashed a reassuring smile to Aito as he hoisted him into the air. "I'll get you to the office in no time, We can worry about the rest later."
He was still treating Aito with a degree of care, under the impression he was healing still. "You need to be careful not to re-injure yourself, Don't worry i'll get you there safely." He then began to quickly but carefully walk Aito to the faculty office, big grin on his face oblivious as onlookers gaped. It only took a couple minutes to get him there as he gently set Aito back down in front of the door. "Alright, I'll meet you in the cafeteria around lunch to see how you're settling in, alright!"
And with an orange blur he was off towards his class, weaving through the crowd with an almost unnatural cat-like grace. Leaving him to wonder just how much of the encounter they just had was real.

"Ok the tour can wait. Please, don't move."
He tilted his head to the side, his blue eyes showing his confusion. "Don't move?" he asked as Haru approached the smaller boy. He twitched as he felt on the back his mind the danger alarms go off, but before he could do anything and his brain could register what was happening, he found himself being carried by Haru. On one hand Haru was stronger than he looked on the other, Aito was lighter, between the two combining all the poor boy could do was turn shades of red.
"I'll get you to the office in no time, We can worry about the rest later."
"Okay..." he said somewhat defeated. After regaining his ability to move on his own he promised himself he would do his best to take care of himself and stay away from needing to ever being on a wheelchair or bed bound. He let out a sigh and relaxed, he knew that if he was to tense it would make it harder on Haru. Plus he did not want his wings to get in the way.
"You need to be careful not to re-injure yourself, don't worry i'll get you there safely."
"Yeah..." he found it hard to explain his whole situation to Haru and honestly, he didn't know if he wanted to share that much with people, they usually had a habit of turning into pity. "I'll do my best" he tried to put a strong face, but it was clear that the situation was awkward and just as fast it started, it ended as he was carefully dropped at the faculty office.
"Alright, I'll meet you in the cafeteria around lunch to see how you're settling in, alright!"
"Uhm... Thanks?!" he said as Haru darted away from the scenery.
It took some time for him to be able to get himself sorted, the next few hours flew by with ups and downs, the administrative office. Bombarded him with paperwork, questions, and other things that would have normally been done before but due to his strange timing in joining the school meant he needed to go through a lot of it quickly, some things were scheduled for another time like his physical assessment and other placement test, for now they would treat him as a first year and with that said he was escorted to his home room class which was already more than half way done.
"Quiet down!" the teacher said as the vice principal escorted Aito into the class. The boy turned pale, he had seen classrooms in shows, but never actually been in one. After a few words exchanged, between the Vice Principal and his homeroom teacher. Aito was informed that he could not keep his jacket on...
Uncomfortable the boy took off his old military trench coat. His clothing was ill fitting, he still didn't have a proper uniform, and in the past, this was not a big problem, but now his pants where too long and his shirt was baggy yet tight around his back as his wings pulled through slits made in the fabric allowing his crimson wings to rest against his back. He did his best to present himself, as expected his name caused issues, to his luck the teacher ended the introduction quickly as they needed to get back into the course. Finding a desk, he did his best to keep up with the class, but the subject was known to him, and he was having trouble focusing has many of the students whispered trying to take stock of the new kid.
The next few classes moved along, he tried to focus on taking notes, he attempted a few times to present himself to the rest of the class, but they were being guarded, trying to get a stock of the new kid. Plus, it did not help that the few times a question was tossed in his direction, he answered with precision, which had already gotten a number of students to think of him as a know it all.
Yet the one time he had been waiting the most finally arrived lunch, he was starving, his stomach had been rumbling for what felt forever and he was not used to honestly having to wait for specific times to eat, it would be something he needed to get used to. Plus he wondered if Haru had been a fever dream or real. He carefully navigated the crowd, letting the stamped of students to go ahead, he was not getting trampled over food, even if he was ravenous. Arriving at the room, he took the sigh and smells, he was surprised how many students there where, "Ah..." he sunk, and let out a defeated sigh. "I'll never find him here..."

The cafeteria was bright and busy, bustling and jostling with people moving every which way. the crowd was particularly fierce near the cafeteria counter. "Koro-Kohai!" came a familiar voice as the boy with the light brown ponytail deftly slid between two students walking the other way, clearing under the food trays and between both of their legs, springing back up with a graceful landing right next to Aito. "Glad to see you're still alive, How are the legs holding up?" he asked Aito, as he presented a bento from behind his back. "It's alright mom made a lot, and there's plenty to go around." he said with his trademark 9000 lumen smile. "I figured you might have some difficulty fighting a death-match for the last hotdogs." he stopped for a minute pondering, "We're a Japanese school why we have hot dogs, and why they are the one menu item people will actually kill over is beyond me." He grinned as he pointed to the courtyard, "Why dont we find a nice tree to hang out under, get us away from all this." he gestured to the crowd with several staring at the pair, some whispering to each other. "How about we take a seat, and you let me know how your first half of the day has been!" There was a kindness and gentleness to his voice and eyes that was different from most. Sure there was concern there, but not pity. "I hope you like Bonito Flakes." he said as he led aito out and away from the building a bit, a small hill with a tree that had long sweeping branches and large broad leaves. the knotted roots at the stump provided some rather convenient nooks to sit in.

"Koro-Kohai!"
Aito was startled as Haru's voice broke through the din of the crowd, he honestly did not expect to find him, and was starting to question is he was real or just some weird fever dream manifested by his anxiety. Placing his hand over his chest he tried to calm his heart. As he looked around to see where Haru was coming from.
"Glad to see you're still alive, How are the legs holding up?"
"Currently better than my heart" he said half-jokingly, he took a deep breath trying to center himself. "I've been doing a lot of sitting today so it has not been too bad." he admitted.
"It's alright mom made a lot, and there's plenty to go around."
He saw the presented bento causing his stomach to grumble loudly, "Sorry, I'm woefully unprepared" he did not know how to thank Haru and as he looked at the aforementioned hotdog line he shuddered trying to survive what seem to be a brawl for the last few hot dogs. A tall beast of a man seemingly trying to keep people under control as his exasperatedly attempted to get his own food.
"Why don't we find a nice tree to hang out under, get us away from all this."
He nodded "Yeah, it's a little overwhelming in here." he thought he would do better, that he was ready, but clearly, he needed to work himself to all of this. He fallowed Haru outside, "I like bonito" it was one of the few things in his old strict diet that they would sprinkle from time to time to give him some sort of diversity.
They reached the hill, going up though small as it might have been did take a bit out of the teen. He took a moment to raise his hand and catch his breath. "Sorry" he apologized. The warm of the sun felt good and the fresh air was calming, instinctively his wings expanded as to catch as much as the sun's rays, he looked over his shoulder, "Sorry..." he apologized again as he felt as his wings got in the way. He looked at the spots on the tree stumps right now knowing full well he sitting right now would be a pain till his wings decided to listen to him "I think I'll stay standing for now."
Trying to change the subject he remembered that Haru wanted to know about his first few classes, "Classes have been boring," he shrugged " I think I already learned all this before" he let out a sigh "They said they would try to do placement test later, they just wanted to make sure I could adapt to the school environments."

"Eh, it's alright you'll learn, and your senpai will be here to help prepare you!" haru said with exuberance beating his chest with a fist as he exclaimed with vitality and gusto.
As they got to the location he sprung out and nestled in a groove of the roots, "No need to apologize, unless you don't plan to train." he said as he looked up at the branches above them, "There is no sin in weakness only a refusal to get stronger." he said to himself as much as to Aito. "Feel free to let your uh... wings stretch out and do their thing, get it out of their system." he laughed a bit, "i know i would be positively bouncing the walls if i was restrained like that."
He popped open his bento box, and inside was a mountain of onigiri, some of them even had little whiskers and lion faces on them. "They're chock full of bonito for protein and brain oil things... i think." haru said as he held it out for aito to take some. "Mom made em specifically to facilitate brain and muscle growth. should be good for you!"
He said as he grabbed one for himself and started chowing down. On his side was a metal thermos with a large lid. "Did you have anything to drink?" he asked. "I can let you use the lid of my thermos as a cup if you need it." he said between bites. The way he ate was a little wild, almost animalistic. Lion ears and a tail would probably not look overly out of place on him.
"So, what kind of rehab do you need? maybe i can help!"

"Eh, it's alright you'll learn, and your senpai will be here to help prepare you!"
Haru was the kind of person who Aito wanted to be. Someone filled with life, he did not delude himself thinking that he had a perfect life, but clearly whatever challenges he had faced had not been enough to bring him down and if Haru could do it, maybe he could learn to be just as eager to experience life.
"No need to apologize, unless you don't plan to train."
He made a face, "I'm trying", he really was, but there was a lot of work he needed to do, a lifetime of learning and training. Mentally he had probably all the knowledge he would ever need, but physically he needed to learn everything, and he needed to ask his body things he had never asked of it before, and this was before wings got into the mix.
"There is no sin in weakness only a refusal to get stronger."
He let out a sigh, "You sound like my dad" he didn't say it with any judgement or anger, "Old Rusty would like you" he chuckled, maybe this is why he felt so easily comfortable around this stranger, there was just a sense of unbridled justice. He nodded to Haru's understanding, "Yeah still getting used to them" he rolled his shoulders as the weight of his large wingspan seem to tug muscles unused to the work, "Sometimes it feels like they have a brain of their own" he joked, the large seven foot wingspan slowly tucked itself on his back, satisfied with some of the sun rays they seem to have captured.
"They're chock full of bonito for protein and brain oil things... i think."
"Thank you" he responded as he took one of the onigiri, "Sounds tasty" he smiled before taking a bite of the food, and he was not wrong, it was tasty, much more delicious than a lot of the meals he grew up with during his many hospital stays or during some of his more strict diets.
"Did you have anything to drink?"
His mouth was full with the onigiri and he quickly tried to finish the food in order to respond, he took a large gulp swallowing almost a whole mouthful in one swoop, causing him to cough as his airway tried to clear out the mound of food. "I honestly came unprepared" he was not even sure if he would have a full school day, he though they would have him take placement test first to see where they wanted him since he was far ahead on his education. "I would appreciate borrowing the lid"
"So, what kind of rehab do you need? maybe i can help!"
Sitting down seiza he tried his best to keep his wings out of the way as he tried to find the best way to answer Haru's question. "Please" he said his voice crackling as he did, "Don't treat me any different", he waited for some sort of acknowledgement before continuing. "I was born premature. I've been mostly bed bound my whole life..." he was used to telling his story, but this was the fist time I could actually change how someone treated him, "When these happened, " he pointed as the crimson wings, "Something changed. I'm not perfect... but I can walk now... I can eat food without getting sick... I'm not in pain..." he closed his eyes and shrugged, "So to answer your question, everything... I'm still working on everything," feeling some rice still stuck on his throat he banged his chest cough a few times. "Sorry rice"

"Maybe he would but i got a long way to go before i can walk the walk." Haru said as he finished his rice ball. He ate voraciously, almost like a wild animal in many ways. He didn't seem to care much how people saw him, perhaps that was his strength. "Here." he said as he filled up the lid with some iced tea, "Should be good and help you perk up a bit, there's some ginseng."
He paid attention to what he said, and nodded. There was a look in his eyes, but it was distinct from pity, It was understanding. "I see so you got knocked back at the starting line and you're trying to catch up, that's admirable." he said as he appraised Aito, "You have a different set of circumstances, and to be honest only a bad trainer would treat every person the same." Haru said as he started poking at Aito's arms, and legs, Touching and testing the muscle mass. "Each body has it's own needs and because of that training should be catered to them, You were looking to strengthen your body basically from zero, right?" he said as he thought for a moment, "Core exercises and Cardio are going to be the most important then, you need to set your body's foundations and the heart, lungs and core muscles are where everything else follows. From there it gets a lot easier to make progress." Haru said as he considered it. "Alright, why don't we do some tests after classes, I'll see where you are now and we can go from there. Do you have any athletic wear?" Haru asked him probably already knowing the answer, "If not we can meet up tomorrow! I'd be glad to help out regardless. I usually get here about two hours early anyway."
He seemed a blur of activity, every time he made a new observation he was on a side and angle. It felt like every time Aito blinked he was on a different angle.
