Name: Hareko ‘Harley/Harley-chan’
Age: 150~
Nationality/Cultural Group: Yokai
Height: 5’11”
Weight: 190 lbs (Roughly 1700lb - 5255 lbs depending on model)
Gender: Female (As many vehicles are referred as)
Affiliations: Freelancer, +81 (120) 5*34-2431 (It spells out ‘Ride please’)
Appearance: A woman appearing to be in their mid-twenties with a pale complexion and angular brown eyes with bronze eyeliner. Her long black hair in slightly messy layers in the back to contrast her formal suit of patching black blazer and pants. Her appearance stats relatively the same for all clients. A pair of rectangular black frame glasses are purely accessory to soften her face. As with many yokai, her ears are slightly pointed when adopting a human look.
Belongings:
* A keyring with a collection of various keys. Roughly ten total of personal favorite vehicles of the past and for adaption to customer needs and party size. One is a bit more rusted than the others.
* A business card holder. Each card is hard plastic with a metallic finish. Numbers to reach her services are punched out so even the blind can trace the lines. There is no business name on it. The numbers create the phrase “Ride please” in phone text.
Personality:
A calm individual with an old amused soul in maintaining good relations to stay in service. While the young fall into rage behind the wheel, she doesn’t. What other drivers do on the road, no matter the road rage or improper use of a signal, she’s seen it all. Beginner drivers are the most amusing with some punk attempting a drive by. More so hilarious of what challenge they try to impose when, as a car themselves, she laughs more at their antics that treat the vehicles they’re using like a clown car.
Character Strengths:
*Good listener- The drives can be long for a human so she won’t be against listening what you feel like talking about.
*Patient - With an ability to find her clients, it’s only a matter of time and time, is something yokai can have in spades.
*Dutiful - Once on an escort task, she will get it done with little distractions compared to a human driver would.
Character Flaws:
*Obsession - Has a fixation on what new advancements have been made both on the local and foreigner market for the sheer purpose of crashing into them and stealing them for her collection before they’re locked in some garage.
*Unforgiving - A deal is a deal so payment is due. Not a single ride from her is ever free. If it was free, someone paid it for you so thank them.
*Subservient - Yokai of her nature are made by the devotion people have for their belongings. When that is broken, there is vengeful want to have that was lost. To return into the service of transporting passengers again and maintain that allows for any passenger to be welcomed.
Backstory:
One upon a time in the countryside where oxen drawn carriages ferrying people between the large towns. Carts decorates and pulled by people and beasts alike, purposed for festivals, and carry government officials and killers with no question. Haruko was a name penned by a carrier who wished for a cart to attract customers among the rivals. The cart lasted for a few generations in line of keeping the business alive.
Eventually there was no more rides to take or owners to claim. The carriage man who would arrange and carry the poles caught pneumonia a during a rainy delivery and quietly passed away in a rest hut. Abandoned after his removal to be buried at his home, the cart was put to storage with the rest of his belongings. Over the course of neglect, the store house doors opened once more by a merchant taking inventory. He bought many items to take to market and shift through the material belongings. The carriage would be taken on a ship and left to lands of cobblestone and defined sidewalks. Restored and put on display as lost antiques for a show.
These people was marvel as the simple yet effective craftsmanship yet there were other carts of a different style pulled by horse and even, by none at all. Such fascinating engineering in the face of a cart on display bearing a basket of flowers upon wooden stands. Years of display and marvel yet unserviced beyond looks alone and migrating different variations of display poses before entering storage once again for years collecting dust.
Around another thirty years went by when a group claiming heritage vessels arrived to inquire about a few belongings. To find the carriage and other material goods descent preserved, it was back to Japan to rest at a restored village was what it was described. A village without people who dressed like the owner had and homes that stood well kept yet no one lived in. Haruko gradually became sentient during a blood moon and rolled away, fulfilling the condition of being well maintained for 100 years.
Since then, Haruko roamed to junk yards as a spirit on the road. Examining crushed cars and broken. beaters for a similar spirit like hers. To be used again, to be fulfilled. Yet there were also the grudges of their poor drivers and ill mistreatment there as well. As a yokai with a developed freedom to these piles of scrap who may sit and rust way did Haruko propose taking on their forms and keys to roam in their stead. With a kinship to be roaming once more, Haruko would set out to assign herself a small business in the advent of the telephone.
“Dial this number and my company will reach you. Here’s our card. We’ll do the rest.”
Family, Friends Etc:
Nakadori Oboro- A human engineer at a manufacturer automotive plant. Married with three kids in in Nagoya. Overworked but smart from his office in Tokyo when sober that leave many to mistake he’s having a mistress on the side when Hareko is around at a company drinking meet. Hareko has interest in them for their new designs and would often provide lifts after a drunk night out in exchange for what models to add to her personal collection.
Powers: A oroboguruma yokai, a phantom car that came to life one blood moon years ago.
Power Theme: Transportation is always in high demand and this yokai lives for it. Her abilities are vehicle transformations as she amasses a collection of cars like her who long for the road. Though, when crossed, she isn’t above giving her clients a hell trip via a car crash or draining them of energy inside her cab to drop off some random country side mountain road.
Rank C Ability: “Guidance system.”
Hareko has lived on the streets for years to have many roads mapped and logged in her mind yet, sometimes, roads are blocked due to unfortunate environments. To bypass this, her windows become opaque as she drives an onramp to a spiritual realm for a brief second where she could drive on walls or over rails to get back on the road again. A brief phantom tunnel through the obstacle before her. Her main requirement is that passengers are not to look outside or else she’d have to drain their energy as punishment and leave them unconscious as their destination for ‘viewing a girl’s secrets’ as foreigners say.
Rank B Ability: “Hell Tunnel”
Compared to a normal brief trip into the spirit realm, some destinations are longer and further than a city. To meet the demands of her customer, in proper compensation, Hareko will open a spiritual gateway to drive to the required location. If compensation is not met, usually riders are left in the most unpleasant of states on arrival. Her compensation for these trips is gradually siphoning her passenger’s spiritual energy as fuel if a worthy amount isn’t promised ahead of time by arrangement.
Rank C Passive: “Service enroute.”
By calling the specific number, Hareko will roll up and appear as summoned no matter the street corner location. Be it at the beach, in the mountains, or on an island accessible by boat. If her customer happens to call and run, Hareko will pursue the client to fufill the ride one way or another.
