Because of her unique healing abilities, sometimes she is seen helping members of the Shinsengumi, though she is not really affiliated with them.
*Note about the Soma. The Soma are a minor clan that used to have standing in the Shoganate, that had fell out of favor due to a misunderstanding. They have been trying to gain favor back ever since. They control a small territory which has shrunk due to the Shogun parceling it off to the Date clan. They have been working hard to reclaim it. Because of the backbiting and subterfuge of the current Soma heads, Goro chose a self imposed exile. Goro and by extension, Tatsu are Soma on paper only.

She works as a shrine maiden for her grandfather, Goro Soma’s shrine titled the Zuishin-in temple. It is not well known by many, but in the eastern section of Kyoto.Often because of her unique gift for healing and purification, members of the Shinesengumi will often ask for help if they do not have a regular priest or priestess present. She may help them, but has refused membership in the Shinsengumi, due to the fact it would sever ties with her last family member. She has no qualms about helping them though.
Appearance: Feminine and neat. Mostly in a uniform, but on off days can be seen wearing somewhat gothic/gothic lolita clothing, which she’s fond of. Tends to wear a lot of dark colors. Navy, Purple, and Deep green. Her hair is long and dark, curling at the ends. Her eyes are a clear silver. Her features are somewhat soft, and she has a small mole under her lip. When seen, she often wears the school uniform or the clothing of a Miko. Her foot wear is typically mary janes or victorian style boots. If she is wearing kimono, her footwear will be some form of geta. Her makeup is what one would consider gothic lolita, in that she has light but lined eyes, pale skin and lightly plum colored lips.
Belongings: She tends to travel somewhat lightly with a messenger bag containing a few things for purification and healing, as well as things pertaining to school. As far as being armed is concerned, she has two weapons that are of use. One being, the Kagura Suzu, a hand held bell-tree with small crotal bells strung in three levels on a spiraling wire often used by Shinto priestesses for the sake of purification, i.e. the Kagura dance. The other weapon being a Naginnata, which is effectively known as the Japanese version of a spear or polearm, which is about 5ft. It's closest relative is the glaive. Which is a long pole with a spear-like tip that is curved.
Personality:She is kind hearted but often very closed off. Her trauma at seeing her parents’ murdered has caused many wounds, one being claustrophobia, another having a difficult time expressing herself to others. For a few years following her parents’ deaths, she was mute and had to relearn to voice her needs. She can often be seen with her nose in a book, tending to something with a worried look on her face, or if she has the time sewing something. Tatsu tends to fold her hands in front of her a lot if not outright clutch her book out of nervousness. Her face is hard to read, and it often makes people a little uncomfortable, even though she is very soft hearted.

Tatsu’s form in combat and dance is very practiced. It has the graceful flow of water, which is often hypnotic to watch. She has practiced so much, it is often like she is in a trance when making fluid movements. She’s very studious, and will generally stay up studying because of her inability to sleep.
Character Flaws:She struggles to sleep, often becoming tired or a little frazzled. This is due to terrifying nightmares.So she often pushes herself a little hard, without a lot of rest. Her nervousness sometimes shows in the way she might white knuckle something or bite her lip. She definitely pushes past her limit, which isn’t a great idea when she is trying to get rid of spirits or heal. Tatsu is also very trusting despite what has happened. This could get her into trouble. She wants to believe in the good of others, which is not always warranted or smart. Lastly, she does struggle with claustrophobia. It is the worst in elevators and crawl spaces (especially the later as she hid in one from her uncle. She works hard to keep herself calm, but sometimes it gets the better of her.

People in the neighborhood suspected that there had been a malicious yokai involved, but to this day, no one is really certain. During the incident, Tatsu managed to escape her Uncle, who was still prowling the house. She ran out into the rainstorm that was falling outside and caught the attention of a kami, Ryujin, a dragon kami known for healing and medicine. The kami took pity on the girl and seeing her potential, chose to bless her. She was later given to the guardianship of her grandfather, Goro Soma. As her only living relative, Goro Soma took up the gauntlet of raising, educating and protecting his eldest son’s only child. Because of the trauma of what Tatsu experienced, for the first few years with her grandfather she was unable to speak and had terrible nightmares. Goro kept working with her, even educating her, Tatsu could read and write fairly well before eventually speaking.
From the ages of five to fourteen Tatsu was able to grow up in relative safety, helping her grandfather work by doing small tasks. Eventually, she grew to care for the household and assist him working at the shrine and tending to the sick and injured, which was needed as Goro was starting to feel his age. Goro eventually worried that he would not be able to care for or protect Tatsu, so he wished to send her away to get an education. He would not have to send her very far, being close to a private academy and a university seemed like a fair compromise where Goro would not have to worry too much about his granddaughter. If his younger son had been possessed by a yokai, the temple grounds would have been one place where he could not see or reach. However the moment Tatsu began to go outside for schooling, she would be somewhat exposed. Due to her status as a blessed person, she is somewhat resistant to malignant yokai and illness. During her testings she scored fairly well for spiritual resonance and attunement. Enough to where the Shinsengumi has noticed her and has tried to recruit her a few times. Without success. It’s uncertain if Ise has contacted her grandfather but it’s likely. Tatsu has turned the Shinesengumi down, she will help when asked, however, she refuses to cut ties with her grandfather, and ties are something the Shinsengumi do not allow you to keep. Her love and loyalty to her grandfather is a big no to them. Her grandfather has a past connection with the main branch of the Soma family,as he was a physician to the heir of the family, but he chose to walk away from their scheming, keeping the name only as a loose connection.
Family, Friends Etc:
• Father- Hiroshi Soma, first born of Goro and Matsu Soma. He was a doctor like his father, with a kind disposition. He was known for being a kind man, abhorring violence with deep black hair. His name means generosity and light.(Deceased)
• Mother- Saya Soma, married Hiroshi from another clan. A beautiful woman with pale gray eyes and an infectious laugh. Was possibly a dancer before meeting Hiroshi. Women in the small village they lived together in were very jealous of her, and often spread rumors. (Deceased)
• Grandfather- Goro Soma, Father to Hiroshi and Hisoka, a kindly country doctor , and one of the few left in his area. He had hoped his first son and daughter in law would come take over the practice. He has salt and pepper hair, and a very patient disposition, even if he is brooding to himself. After his son and daughter in law were murdered, he raises their daughter alone. Before his hermitage, he was a military medic and after that, he was a medic to the Soma family, carrying for one of their heirs and earning his place. He chose to walk away from the family due to their consistent backbiting and conniving behavior. He raises his granddaughter in a self imposed exile, but will drop what he is doing to still give care to the heir he treated as his own child. He currently runs Zuishin-in temple.

Power Theme:Healing Priestess.Blessed by Ryujin.
Ryujin is a Dragon Kami/Deity. His motif is of a storm dragon of the sea that brought medicine and healing to early Japan. As someone blessed by him, Tatsu has both a healing and storm motif that manifests in her abilities. This is somewhat overlapped by the fact she also works as a miko. Things based around rain, lightning, and healing encompass this.To start off, her character will be healing focused, but will start to gain a bit of storm magic once she has leveled up a fair bit.
Rank C Ability:Purification- Tatsu can use the Kagura Suzu or if she has any, salt to dispel lower level yokai and miasma. When she does this, sometimes in the form of a Kagura dance, it can drive these things out of a space and protect the person or place she is tending to. (This is for lower level, npc types yokai) The area it would affect would be about a 30ft radius around her. Think the size of a large living room or yard. She can enter yokai dens by clearing a path through. She is fairly resistant versus yokai miasma.
Rank B Ability:‘Ryujin’s Touch’- Tasu can channel an output of healing energy that looks like a bolt of lightning. This can be used restoratively. It can be channeled through the hands used to heal by restoring moderate injuries, or to resuscitate. It is more touch based skill, she has to make physical contact with the target or targets of healing. Depending on how much or how complex, it can be very draining. Resurrection would be very difficult, and even at a full health, she could become incapacitated from fatigue.
Rank C Passive: ‘Ryujin’s Presence’- The intimidation of a dragon. Think of the miasma a dragon causes that promotes fear in its opponents. Can cause the user to have small horns and possibly a tail at worst when manifesting or during states of extreme emotion. She is constantly trying to keep this under control, I could only imagine that it would come out under great threat or emotional distress. It is more or less a defense mechanism.

- Uncle-Hisoka Soma,Uncle to Tatsu and brother to Hiroshi. Not much is known about him other than the fact that he was the younger of the two brothers, had a gambling habit, and murdered his older brother and sister in law. He is currently at large, wanted for murder and outed from the Soma family. It was rumored that he was possessed by a yokai at the time, but due to his disappearance, no one can confirm that.
