Now this game was part of my childhood and I just got it back recently. It was a long time sega franchise that was in the arcades first and then got ported on mostly sega consoles like the dreamcast and the genesis. I had only played PS2's virtua fighter 4 evolution and this one. There were later iterations of virtua fighter 5 in the form of final showdown and ultimate showdown but that was in the form of more so e-sports so the base game was more my speed. It had 17 different characters of varying difficulty to use, master, and customize their looks.
The main draw I took from the game was it's quest mode, which is you battle many different opponents in these "arcade" areas to become the top player of the game. You can win money, items, orbs and other things for your chosen character. As of this writing, I am a 10th dan with Pai Chan (one of the characters in the game). There's also arcade and versus mode for more traditional fighting game modes. There's no online play which is fine by me.
